THOUGHTS! may be used in the not too distant future as more of a personal portfolio, but we'll see about that.

LASTING

Today we started hand-lasting our first practice shoe. Here's a run through of whats going on in each of the images:

1. Pulling the leather lining over the sole and securing it with tacks.
2. Completion of pulling the lining.
3. + 4. Tacks have been removed from lining and lining has been adhered to sole, a toe stiffener has also been put in.

I wonder if they'll fit once they're done... I'm pretty excited :)

So, I was browsing through some old ARS Sutoria footwear magazines at Tafe and found these boots by Christian Dior (Fall 2004 RTW), which as I'm sure you'll agree, reminded me OH so much of the infamous Emma Cook for Topshop boots. The only variations I can find are; the crepe at the bottom is patterned differently, the CD's are higher, and obviously the actual colours are different.

These are some images from i-D magazine, The Emotion Issue No 225, 2002, pages 65-66.

The makeup in these shots I find quite interesting. As the theme of the issue suggests, the images do convey a sense of emotion/feeling. To me the models look flustered, with the hair swept away from their faces in such furious gusto, the skin an uneven tone with white haphazardly smudged across their face and their eyes accented with light peachy pinks.

The clothing is also worth a mention, with a dress by Hussein Chalayan and a dress by Jean Colonna. I had not heard of Jean Colonna before, I had a look on the net and the only shows I can find are Spring 2000 and Fall 2000. The Fall 2000 collection I think is definitely still quite relevant today.

Some new items have arrived at Black Market Baby!

Before I go on about the clothes, Black Market Baby have a new website : www.audreycantwell.com. It also includes some styling and older collections which are worth browsing through.

I am most pleased with the leather panel leggings, as they are higher than the ones that Black Market Baby had before. And most importantly, they are the cheapest ones of their kind available online anywhere I've seen, at $92 US.
Another interesting addition is the triple rabbit's foot necklace. I like it, but I think I would prefer either just a single one, or many bunched together to form a necklace on their own, but still, it's the kind of jewellery not many people make so I am thankful that Black Market Baby does :)
My other favourites include; the sheepskin vest, and the cape dress, shown below.

DIY NECKLACE #2

I went rummaging around Bunnings (my local hardware store) and I fell in love with two aisles; plumbing fittings and wall fixtures. I got a little excited and made these two necklaces. At this point, I favour the silver one. However, it does weigh about a kilo and a half...

To make the silver one, I used:
- a length of flexible irrigation tubing
- 20 x 20mm nuts
- 12 x 30mm nuts
- 3 x 45mm nuts
- plumbing pipe fastener (to hold the necklace together at the back)

And the gold one:
- 5 meters cheap gold chain from a craft store
- 2 x "some random piece of plumbing pipe thing"
- 1 x "some slightly larger piece of plumbing pipe thing"
- excuse the vague there, I don't know the right name for those things..

Written Afterwards is a Japanese label by Yoshikazu Yamagata. Written Afterwards is also responsible for one of the masks made for a Dazed&Confused shoot with Hedi Slimane. These images are from Written Afterwards' Collection #5 which has a very caveman aesthetic to it. It also reminds me of very basically represented Greek Gods. These aren't clothes that I would really be prepared to wear, however I do find the concept quite daring for a runway. Oh and they've done a great job with amping up the hair volume, it's like a frikkin condor's nest.

I just recently bought this Gripp dress. It has cutouts at the front and back and a rope that you can use to tie the dress up through the cutouts as you wish. You cant really see it here, maybe I'll post it later but I also found a little (what seems to be) "vial of blood" necklace at the Gilles Street Markets last month.

Just came across this interesting online publication, Pages Online. It has some great styling, and just in terms of online magazines, it has great features. For example, you can leave comments on some pages of the magazine, and some of the shoots are animated.

If you go and have a look at Issue 66 (there are some images below) the page with the girl walking is actually animated, which I think adds an interesting element to the display of the shoot. The other great thing is that things are clickable in the magazine view, meaning that you can be taken directly to the stockist of something you may like.

Some very interesting details at the Jean Paul Gaultier 2010 Couture show. The armour like leg and arm bracelet things I found very appealing, as well as the many short chunky necklaces layered so they went quite high up the neck. Oh and I most definitely liked the jade hand jewellery.

AUSTRALIA...YOU DISAPPOINT

I was proud to be Australian up until last week when I discovered that the Australian Classification board was declaring female ejaculation aka "squirting", PROHIBITED. That is to say, their reasoning being, as squirting is not scientifically proven the liquid is as offensive as urine and therefore, perverse and abhorrent. Here is the article.

Now, I calmed down a little after learning that, but became even more disappointed and infuriated last night upon learning that a certain Queensland politician, Barnaby Joyce, has now also prohibited women with "a cup" breasts from appearing nude in media because quote:
"They banned mainstream pornography from showing women with A-cup breasts, apparently on the grounds that they encourage paedophilia, and in spite of the fact this is a normal breast size for many adult women. "

When our ridiculous internet censorship filter gets put into effect in the middle of this year, things that have been classified prohibited will be blocked by the filter.

So what I am left wondering is, will I be able to view images like this after July?

On Monday I will be starting a new course. Footwear at TAFE. I am VERY excited and absolutely cant wait to start making.

COLOUR

The internet tells me that Turquoise is the colour of 2010, as decided by Pantone. Reading the actual forecast gives a bit of a better insight into the whole forecast, with colours like Tuscany and Dried Herb which are more neutral. Or as I have been putting it lately, poo-greens and poo-browns.

I usually hate these sort of, earthy, neutral colours. But suddenly, possibly with the onset of heat induced mania, I am obsessed with them, the poo colours. Albeit, usually with a dash of a nude-ish peach pink tone in some form.

Here I can be seen pulling out a camel toe, caused by pulling up my shorts too high. A problem which I am sure many women other than myself, have also experienced.

You might say, "Oh well maybe you shouldnt pull your pants up so high, lady."

And I would respond, "NO. I want them that high!"

The answer lies elsewhere.

Some one needs to invent a little stiff hard panel thingy to stick to the inside of the shorts so that when pulled up, the area still remains flat.

I experimented with some folded paper, and it worked a treat. But to be honest, I doubt the longevity of the paper and hence, will not take that idea into the public arena.

Ahh! I just found it! It's called a Cuchini! GROSSEST NAME EVER!! Looks ok, but I'd prefer a different shape, and name.

And this lovely website claims that camel toes are the new fad, just like mood rings and pet rocks. Their words, not mine. Also contains a link to NSFW "Free Cameltoes".

I have discovered the joy of wearing underwear on the outside. Got myself some of those body slimming tight undergarments. They're super comfortable and indeed, hold everything in.

Therese Rawsthorne's most recent collection SS09/10 got me thinking of this underwear as outerwear. The models seem to be wearing the same sort of shorts in a nude colour.

Some pictures from the weekend past...I made this necklace for halloween, and cut the top off these Levi 501s. For the necklace, I wrapped black string around a bunch of fabric and tied on some sticks, bits of gravel and some hair I had lying around from back when I had Japanese hair extensions.

Pretty excited about halloween to be honest. AND looking forward to this summer...it will be so much easier to get dressed in the morning. Although i have grown to like the heavy jackets and layering, I still prefer being able to wear whatever I want without fear of spending the day miserable and cold.

Thanks to Jezebel I came across this website, Custom Creature Taxidermy. As you may or may not know, I already own a grouse's foot. (also known as a Mizpah, it's a Scottish traditional item I'm quite sure. Although the name is Jewish, meaning "watchtower"). I've blogged this grouse foot before in this post. So anyway, this site is right up my alley. These are things I've fallen into sick amour with.

All this makes me want to learn taxidermy. However I cant seem to find anywhere that specifically teaches it.

La Planete Sauvage

La Planete Sauvage (The Fantastic Planet) is an animated sc-fi French film from 1973 Directed by Rene Laloux. Apparently there is a remake planned for 2010, I really hope so. I remember seeing it on SBS a few years ago and thinking it was awesome. Here's the beginning of the movie.

I've come across it again because Planet Sauvage is the name of the new season of P.A.M. which includes some amazing jewellery.

I dont really know if the new season was influenced by the movie or not, because the name Fantastic Planet on its own without the aspects of the film is enough to describe the new season. Here is a pic of the P.A.M. "Rock Necklace" I'm quite fond of.

And on the theme of fantastic planets, I really want this digitally printed "Glory Scarf" from Trust Fun. Apparently the (I assume digitally printed) scarves' patterns are mathematically valid fractals that they have created, each one uniquely different. I love fractals. When I was younger my Dad always used to show me pictures of different ones in his New Dawn and other alternative science magazines.

Trust Fun is run/creatively saturated by Shane Sakkeus and Jonathan Zawada. They are the same peeps that did Petit Mal of which the first issue is now available to read online.

As far as I remember, my limited understanding of fractals was that it was a geometric shape that on its edges had smaller versions of itself and then those smaller shapes had even smaller versions of themselves on their edges and so on and so forth. So they appear pretty often in nature, eg snowflakes. Snowflakes have ever decreasing scales of themselves repeated throughout the form. Apparently Jackson Pollock (the artist) used fractals in his artwork. Here is a fractal.

Anyway, I bought this leopard print body stocking, its a Leg Avenue one, and wore stockings and a singlet underneath and some combat boots. Went out in it on Friday night. IT WAS AWESOME. And with the cold weather here right now, it was actually really warm. Illpost a proper picture of the outfit later on.

I recently watched a movie called "Crash" directed by David Cronenberg from 1996. (Same guy that did "Naked Lunch"). I was quite conflicted about how I felt about it in the end.

Here's a short description from IMDB; "After getting into a serious car accident, a TV director discovers an underground sub-culture of scarred, omnisexual car-crash victims who use car accidents and the raw sexual energy they produce to try to rejuvenate his sex life with his wife."

It's an interesting idea, definitely. The trailer is below, and the trailer makes it out to be thrilling, fast paced and deeply sensual. Now, in my opinion, the movie is none of these, but I think that is somewhat the point.

It ends up feeling cold, emotionless and empty. I didn't feel anything for any of the characters. Especially Deborah Unger, yes she's quite beautiful, but I wouldve appreciated if she didn't whisper and look off into the distance ALL THE TIME. All this said, I do recommend it, because it is really thought provoking and unsettling. It is a film you need to brood over and get slightly angry at, and then you actually realise what its about and you love it.

And I mean, seriously. SPADER.

Thanks again to MAFIA-HUNT. I came across this store in Japan, in Shibuya-Ku. Marios Left Tanker. It stocks 5 labels; Marios (from Italy), Blank (from Japan), Andrea Crews (from France), February (from Italy) and A'N'D (from the UK).

1-8 and 13 is Marios.

7 and 8 are interesting to me, they're combining 3 different shades, patterns and textures of blue at yet it still works. In 13 I only like the cut out leggings that go over the head. They're amazing.

9-10 is February.

11-12 is A'N'D.

The bag idea is awesome. Having it be able to fold out like that is great.

14 is Blank.

I think I've come across this brand before, but it's only really stuck with me now. I really like the idea behind it. The sort of do plain versions of basic clothes/shoes/bags. Awesome things end up happening. Like LEATHER T-SHIRTS. Yeah. PRETTY amazing. I'm quite fond of the shoes too.

I went to Oxfam with Squeasel. Oxfam, for those of you who are unaware, is a community aid abroad sort of thing, a shop that sells things made by people from third world countries, and then most of the profits go back directly to them.

I bought this bellydancing bra/top from there for $50AU.

Here I'm wearing it with a black mesh AA bodysuit, Tigerlily leather jacket and Supre tights.

In the "Photo #3" post, you can see the same sort of chainmail-ey thing that Squeasel bought for her hand. It's awesome.
